WOW! That is all I can say. What an amazing experience. If you are a photographer and haven’t been to Texas School you are missing so much. You have an opportunity to study with some of the best photographers in the country in a small classroom setting for a whole week! You have the opportunity to meet and network with other photographers from around the world. You have the opportunity to party like you were in college again! You have the opportunity to meet the vendors, see their products and purchase at a discount and win lots of cool prizes. Oh, did I mention the partying?
I took a natural light class from Carl Caylor. I really think that this class is going to make a huge difference in the level of my photography and I can’t wait to get out and shoot and practice all the things he taught us. It is amazing how he opened my eyes and made me see the “light”!! He also made me see the shadows too. Carl was funny, knowledgeable, patient and really cared about making sure we understood what he was trying to teach us.
Thanks Carl for an amazing week!
I also got to make some new friends and visit with some old ones. Some of my new friends live very near me and we have plans to stay in touch. I have been very blessed because I’ve met some great people in this industry. Sitting around talking photography, business and just life in general was one of my favorite parts of the school. I learned almost as much from other students as I did in class.
Then there was the parties. The vendors are very good to the students at Texas School. One night we had barbecue at Cowboy’s Red River and a concert with The Spazmatics. They are great. Everyone was dancing and having a great time. They play fun, retro dance music from the 80′s. It was like I was in my 20′s again.
Another night we had a costume party. This years theme was “Boots and Boxers”. I was a little concerned about this, but purchased a new pair of books and yes, dreaded boxers. All of the teachers dress up and have a parade to open the night. It has to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen. Another great night at Texas School!
Then there is the big Trade Show night when all of the vendors are there in one room. You get to shop, ask questions, try their products and who doesn’t like to shop for photography gear!
Here are a few images from the week. Hope you enjoy! I am counting down the days until next year. Already trying to decide what class to take. I can’t image anyone topping my experience with Carl Caylor.
