Out of my Comfort Zone and Making New Friends

If you know me at all, then you know I’m not the most social person. In fact I’m dreadfully shy around people I don’t know. It is the thing I dislike most about myself and I’ve struggled to overcome for years. That trait doesn’t usually work well with a photographer who must communicate and make clients feel comfortable.

One of my goals for 2012 was to get out more, be more social and get out of my comfort zone. I’ve joined the Dallas PPA and Social Media Club of Dallas and made lots of new friends and I really enjoy both of these new outlets. I’m still not 100% comfortable, but getting better.

Yesterday afternoon was a beautiful day so I grabbed my camera and headed up to Watters Creek, a beautiful shopping area in Allen, Texas. While I was there, by the creek photographing the landscape, waterfalls and ducks I noticed a mother playing with her little girl. They were so cute and I wanted so much to take pictures of them. Instead of being a stalker and sneaking photos of them I decided I’d just approach the mom and ask if it was okay. She said yes. I gave her my business card (so she wouldn’t think I was some weirdo photographing children in the park) and told her if she’d email me I’d send her copies of the photos.

Since the pictures came out so cute I hope that she does contact me.I’d love to share them with her. Who knows, maybe I’ll also have a new client in the future. So, thanks to little Abbey and her mom for allowing me a little peek into their play time.
