Since I usually do my shooting outdoors or in the studio I haven’t had much experience using off camera flash. When the North Texas Photography Club offered a workshop on this topic I jumped at the chance to have the opportunity to practice and learn. As a great bonus I also got to photograph some beautiful senior girls and add to my portfolio.
The North Texas Photography Club has access to an old abandoned gas station/garage just off the square in downtown McKinney. This is a great location to shoot and use off camera flash. With the service bay doors open and the windows in the garage you get great window lighting, but it is dark enough on the inside that off camera flash is a must.
Here are a few of the shots I took yesterday during the session. If you are looking for a photography club that not only provides portfolio building opportunities but classroom education as well I strongly recommend the North Texas Photography Club. I have learned so much from participating in this club and added great images to my portfolio as well. You won’t find a better group of people to work with.
